Exciting News: New Maintainers for OneBusAway Projects
We've got some fantastic news to share about the OneBusAway (OBA) project. Two key components of our ecosystem are welcoming new maintainers, each bringing a wealth of experience and passion to their respective areas. Let's dive in and meet them!
OneBusAway GTFS Modules: Welcome, Leonard Ehrenfried!
Check out the onebusaway-gtfs-modules project on GitHub.
I'm thrilled to announce that Leonard Ehrenfried is taking the helm as the new maintainer of the OneBusAway GTFS Modules. For those unfamiliar, this is our Java-based library for reading, writing, and transforming public transit data in the GTFS format, including database support.
Leonard brings over a decade of experience to the table, with a particular focus on GIS applications, public transport, and routing systems. He's a core developer of OpenTripPlanner, a widely-used public transport routing and information engine. His expertise spans web cartography, geocoding, transit and OpenStreetMap modeling, bicycle routing, and observability - all crucial skills for advancing our GTFS Modules.
Leonard's background as a software consultant specializing in GIS applications makes him an ideal fit for this role. I'm confident that under his stewardship, we'll see exciting developments in this project.
OneBusAway Android App: Say Hello to Amr Hossam!
Check out the onebusaway-android project on GitHub.
I'm equally excited to introduce Amr Hossam as the new maintainer of the OneBusAway Android app. Amr's journey in software development began at the impressive age of 16 when he started building and publishing Android apps. Since then, his apps have amassed over 800,000 downloads on Google Play - a testament to his skills and user-focused approach.
Amr brings a unique blend of academic knowledge as a recent Computer Science graduate and practical experience in Android development. His proficiency in Java, Kotlin, and C++, combined with his problem-solving skills honed through competitive programming, makes him well-equipped to take our Android app to new heights.
What particularly stands out about Amr is his enthusiasm for open-source contributions and his experience in refactoring and enhancing legacy codebases. This mindset aligns perfectly with our mission at OTSF to continuously improve and evolve our software.
Looking Ahead
The addition of Leonard and Amr to our maintainer team marks an exciting new chapter for OneBusAway. Their expertise and fresh perspectives will be invaluable as we continue to enhance our tools and apps for the benefit of transit agencies and riders worldwide.
To our community of users, developers, and transit enthusiasts: stay tuned for updates and improvements to these projects. As always, your feedback and contributions are what make OBA thrive.
Here's to the road ahead!
